RECYCLING STICKERS

Tools: Photoshop - Illustration, Pencil-Sketchbook - Sketch

Background: My high-school's environment club recognized that stickers can be an effective way to raise awareness and engage the school community in environmentally friendly practices, and so the task was to design stickers that would capture attention and encourage participation in efforts to reduce carbon footprint.

Making the Stickers: I had sketched up a couple different designs on my sketchbook, and decided to go with the two designs seen. The design on the bronze version is a unique take on the classic green-white recycling pins. The silver version on the other hand, incorporates my love of ducks.

For the bronze version, I started off with the basic shapes and colors and then proceeded to render-paint the wood and metallic materials. After that I added the green paint splash, the recycling icon, and made some final adjustments.

For the silver version, I started off with a digital sketch, copied the ring from the bronze version but added a couple adjustments and polish, and proceeded to render-paint the objects. I added texture by crosshatching on the vest, and use rough brushes where it is fitting, such as the hat. I also used reference to render things such as the plastic bottle and soda can. Taking into consideration bounce lighting, I added some light yellows to the hat, and the recycling can. The background I painted last, and made it so it would contrast the main subject. Since both my designs used the RBG color mode, I converted the image into CMYK to be print friendly.
